How I increased my Instagram reach in four months.

I was going to end 2024 with a Racing Mentor Wrapped email, but the truth is, it was a quiet year.

From having to pause progress on Get Paid to Race V2 to the sheer hustle that 2024 required, I let Racing Mentor take a bit of a backseat, especially in the first half of the year.

To be honest, I think I needed that break. I was still plugging away, teaching at the SIM Motorsport Race School and making plans, but I was doing a lot of it in the background.

I gave myself the time and space to recover from a few things.

Sometimes we need to look at where we're using our energy. If I'd kept pushing with the book and the usual level of content, I'd have risked serious burnout.

Once I felt ready to come back to Racing Mentor, I wanted to do it properly. So, from September this year, you may have seen a big difference in my Instagram content.

That big spike was the announcement that I'd be running team RM Electric in the eSkootr Championship in 2025.

But the peaks afterwards are more interesting.

From October into November, I started posting pretty much daily on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

I wish I could tell you the results were astonishing but they weren't, especially not on YouTube. But what I did learn was this:

  • Relatable content reached the most people
  • Motivational content got the most comments/likes
  • Reels inviting comments got the most engagement (which is good for the algorithm!)
  • Content that adds value is the most powerful

How has this changed my approach?

The biggest thing I learned was that consistency delivers reach and follows. However, I saw that a more considered approach would be better. So rather than just posting fun, relatable videos, I knew needed more value-add content.

You might have seen in my recent reels that I'm posting more sponsorship advice. This has been more effective than solely posting the relatable or funny stuff.

It's also forced me to look at other people's content. I'm looking at the format of reels and TikTok videos to see what works. Below you'll see the difference between posting any ol' thing (left) and something more tailored to Instagram (right).

The key here is consistency. I have a VERY niche audience but posting regularly will keep those numbers growing.

I've also come to the conclusion that YouTube isn't an effective channel for Racing Mentor. Perhaps it would be if I had the time to put into it, but it's not worth the effort when Instagram and TikTok are already driving new follows and sales.

If you want to see the kind of content I'm posting, you can find Racing Mentor on Instagram and TikTok.

Keep up the good work!

Jess
