Increased awareness of health and wellness has caused a massive shift in the health industry. According to a new report, wellness is now estimated to be worth over $6 trillion, surpassing the pharmaceutical industry.
So is this an area you could tap into as a racing driver?
First off, think about what you're interested in. As an athlete, nutrition and fitness brands are perhaps the most relevant but the wellness sector contains all sorts of brands.
In this email, I'll give suggestions for the types of companies you could pitch to within the three largest sectors of this growing market.
Personal care and beauty (worth $1.2 trillion globally)
Skincare
Skincare covers a wide range of products from affordable brands all the way through to the highest of high-end luxury potions. They might promise clear skin, turning back time, or more elasticity. The options are endless when it comes to finding brands to work with.
Cosmetics
This includes long-running brands such as MAC; ones owned by celebrities, such as Fenty Beauty; and even newcomers like Made by Mitchell. The product ranges are huge from highly pigmented palettes to barely-there tinted moisturisers.
Makeup brands sponsoring motorsport isn't new, either. In a recent blog post, I talked about a cosmetics brand sponsoring driver Toni Breidinger.
Haircare
Everything from treatments to styling products. There are some huge brands out there but there are also some boutique ones that are doing great things with community building and social selling.
Personal grooming tools
This includes the obvious things such as razors and electric toothbrushes. But there are also brands offering much more targetted or unusual devices, so think outside the box.
Spas and salons
As well as products, there are brands offering wellness services. This could be anything from a hair salon to a massage parlor to a floatation tank centre!

Quick tip
Look at the brands you use regularly and consider whether your audience would use them too. These brands will want to reach new people so consider how you can do that on social media or at the track.

Healthy eating and nutrition (worth $1.09 trillion globally)
Supplements and vitamins
There are some old-school vitamin brands out there as well as newer, trendier brands that offer supplements for a wide range of uses. Keep an eye out for everything from matcha powder to electrolytes to natural sleep aids.
Meal kit delivery services
This includes boxes with ingredients for you to cook or ready meals for a quick fix. There's something for every goal and dietary need.
Healthy food and drink companies
Once again, the options are endless. Think about what you use from protein bars to energy drinks.

Quick tip
Think about the products that would help you reach your fitness goals as a driver. These brands want to show that what they sell really works. If you can create great content around this and promote the products to your audience, you could be on to a winner.

Fitness (worth $1.06 trillion globally)
Gyms
From local, independent gyms to national chains, you've got lots of options here.
Fitness clothing and equipment
This includes gym gear, weights, running shoes, machines, and so much more.
Fitness apps
These could be programme-based or they could be to help people track their workouts/nutrition. Take a look at the app store on your phone for some inspiration.
Sports and outdoor equipment
If you're the outdoorsy type, consider looking at brands that make gear such as hiking boots and clothing, tents, etc.
Services
This can include anything from personal training to physiotherapy and sports massage.

Quick tip
The big brands are already working with athletes. Take inspiration from the things they're doing to activate that sponsorship. Then look for smaller brands that could benefit from working with you in a similar way.
